Project Completion Report
Title
Beanies
Abstract
I will be making beanies or all different sizes, styles, and colors to donate to the community and those less fortunate.
(There was one minor detail that is different from my original abstract than what I ended up doing. I ended up not doing different styles of beanies but did do different sizes and colors).
Goal
I spent hours upon hours completing many beanies in which I donated to the Women’s Crisis Center. I purchased all my supplies from Walmart; that included: looms, needle, and all the yarn. When I first started making the beanies, I was learning so it took a bit longer than I was expecting. After I completed the first few, I was really starting to get the hang of things and became faster and more efficient. There were times I was making them for so long my hands started to hurt and cramp up that I took a break. Although it’s something quite simple and might seem redundant, I actually enjoyed it because it was mind-numbing and was able to relax and allowed me to get my mind off stressors in my life.
I was able to attain this goal by being consistent. The main reason was because I recognized that I had to pace myself. There were times I was trying to knock a lot out at once and ended up not working on more for a week or so. I noticed that it was better for me to just do a little at a time such as 1 or 2 every day. With the exception of going without working on any for a few days at a time, I was able to still complete my goal. One thing I wish I did was count how many I did total before I donated them.
Outcomes
After making all these beanies, it has been something I have continued. Not near as much as I want, but every once in a while I’ll feel like making one for either family members or even just to continue to donate more. One of the main reasons I feel that I continue to make these is because it is a very relaxing activity for me. I get so stressed at times and this just helps me to unwind. I do not have proof that I’ve continued to make these beanies. I’ve forgotten to take pictures considering I no longer needed to.
After making all these beanies, I haven yet to start to learn how to make other items as I mentioned in my proposal. I do, however, still have the desire to even though it hasn’t happened yet. One thing I didn’t think of during the proposal, but I think it would be pretty neat to learn how to make gloves, or mittens. Maybe that will be something to work towards because I think that would be another great and useful item to donate.
There was one outcome that was unanticipated from this project. One of my good friends ended up wanting to learn how to make beanies so that she could make them for her nieces and nephews and some to even donate as well. I ended up teaching her how and she’s made quite a few.
Deliverables
Original: I will provide pictures of receipts of the yarn purchases I will buy to make the beanies. I will also take pictures of the finished products.
I have failed to follow through with one of my stated deliverables. I took pictures of my receipts right before I threw them away but ended up breaking that phone before I ever backed it up to my laptop. Even though I don’t have proof of the receipts anymore, I do still have my other deliverable. I was able to retake pictures of the finished products on my new phone because I had not yet donated the beanies. The deliverables I will be able to present are pictures of the tools used to create the beanies and the beanies themselves.
